The Power of Volunteers
The ReStore is a vital component to the success of Merrimack Valley Habitat for Humanity [MVHH]. It provides MVHH with added revenue to achieve the mission of providing affordable housing in our area. Equally important is the opportunity to provide local residents and small contractors with building materials, furniture and household goods at great prices.
The ReStore volunteers come from our community. Retired individuals, students and local business groups make up the core of the much needed, consistent, volunteer corps. Without these dedicated volunteers we could not achieve our mission.
Recently we have seen a great example of ‘the power of volunteers’… The past couple of weeks we have had an uptick in volunteerism.
The end result of this uptick is… A better ReStore! We have been able to plan and execute the reorganizing of some departments and tidy others, generally get things done that we have been trying to get to for the last 6 months.
Shop-ability has improved greatly generating many comments from shoppers and volunteers. Items that have been buried under other items are now moving out the door generating income, instead of filling space.
Another example of the ‘power of volunteers’ is the groups of High School students that volunteer on Saturdays. These committed students provide us with the additional people power, on the busiest day of the week, to run special sales events, to provide excellent service to donors dropping off merchandise and to help customers with their purchases. This additional people power enables the staff and regular volunteers to increase sales and engage community support.
Many visitors to the ReStore come to find the “Hidden Treasures” and volunteers assist in the hunt. The ReStore is a wonderful combination of Brimfield, a garage sale and a building supply store. The reuse of the donated materials saves money for buyers and diverts materials from our landfills.
The ReStore is committed to the mission of affordable housing.
Without ‘the power of volunteers’ we cannot accomplish our goals.
Come be a part of the fun. Shop – Donate – Volunteer!
